The Rebellious Profit
INTRODUCTION
This study, JONAH: The Rebellious Prophet is the first of a four-part series on the Bible’s Old Testament Book of Jonah.
The book of Jonah is prophecy of old being fulfilled. The prophecy foretold that God would turn His back on the Jewish nation for a time because of their disobedience, while extending His love and grace towards the Gentile nations of the world. This extension of God’s loving hand to the Gentile nations of the world began here in the story of Jonah with the Gentile Assyrian Ninevites.
The prophecy rings out loud and clear that God Jehovah, the God of the Jews is for, and cares for the Gentiles too! It shows God will spare no extreme to get His message to the Gentile world.
At the end of his earthly ministry, our Lord Jesus told his disciples to,
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit....”
Matthew 28: 19
God has not canceled out every Jew from his plan of salvation, for the writers of the Bible’s New Testament: the apostles John, Peter, and Paul were all Jews. But God has canceled out the Jewish nation for a season because of continual rebellion. The nation’s continual rebellion throughout the Bible’s Old Testament has made God put them on time out!
Now, God is doing a new thing with the other nations of the world. When He is finish with His miraculous work upon the Gentile world through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit, He will then turn His face back towards the Jewish nation.
